Play based learning Room 10 styles

Play based learning in Room 10 - Opening the world up for Creating Critical, Creative, and Innovative learners.

What does play based learning mean - well it basically means children learn through play. There is no limit to what can be done. They follow their interest with the support of the teacher, allowing the children to lead the play with the teacher providing opportunities to extend on this in a variety of ways. Children learn in so many different ways that there is no set way to play. Children freely and safely explore their environment, expressing themselves that is comfortable to them. It is an opportunity for children to make new discoveries, learn new ways of doing things and know that it is okay to change the direction of their own play. Play based learning is extended through open ended questions, observations, listening and allowing the children grow and gain confidence in what ever they are doing.

Play based learning links imagination and  real life situations, providing a great way for children to build on their social development as they share ideas through their play and investigations within their surroundings.

Jordan - Writing the recipe down
24th February 2020 - Cooking Brownies to share with the class. It was an opportunity to invite some other friends to come help and spend some time in Room 10 checking out some of the things we do. What an awesome effort by everyone involved. It was fantastic to see the team work as they all contributed in a positive way. Taking turns, sharing tasks, encouraging one another. By inviting fellow classmates to come contribute to the experience the kids are learning and developing social skills,  an ability to persevere, encourage/support one another, share stories about how they help out at home and be inspired to take what they have learnt back to class and home. My friends were super excited to share with their friends and show their teachers what they had cooked, showing a sense of pride and achievement.

28th February 2020

Sharing the importance of positive relationships/friendships.

What does friendship mean to you? To us it means Being a good listener, Making the right choices, Being helpful, Showing you care, being honest, Inviting others to join your games, Sharing with others, Say hi to people and Be cool and Be kind to name a few of the awesome ideas. This was an opportunity for Cool Kiwis to show these ideas by painting a 'Friendship board' with positive words to share with others and to express themselves in a relaxed, expressive fun way. So remember  BE KIND BE NICE AND BE A FRIEND.
