18th February 2020 - Our first couple weeks of Term 1 in Room 10, showing what the Fantastic Fantails have been doing.

Loads if interactive, imaginative play happening today with the group. Taina was the mum and shop keeper, Magic came and brought food for his family, Ihaia was the chef, Jacob was the banker and builder and Sundown was the fireman putting out the fires. The room was set out just right with each area being utilised fully. The whole group were acting out real life situations, using manners, correct verbal and body language, showing me what they know about the wider world around them. It was an opportunity for them to express themselves freely and safely within room 10s environment, knowing the right ways to socially interact with one another. I took over shop keeper so Taina could continue caring for her pepe showing me a real nurturing side to her. Magic enjoyed using the play money to barter when buying groceries for his whanau. 
During todays interactions I saw consideration, respect for one another, awesome listening skills and patience as they spoke to one another and noted one another's thoughts, ideas and ability to express themselves comfortably.

I can the friendships that have already formed outside of room 10 and it is wonderful they have the opportunity to continue to build on their friendships during their visits to room 10, while being able to express themselves freely and openly in a safe inviting environment.

We did some baking - yummy chocolate brownie/muffins for their whole class to enjoy. This was an opportunity for the group to interact, take turns and share the tasks, listen to instructions, share their own cooking experiences from home and build on positive social interactions with one another that they can take back with them to class and home. Cooking brings with it patience, perseverance and loads of enthusiasm and excitement. By doing such things as cooking with my friends I am giving them the trust and empowerment to succeed, understanding everyone is able to have an equal opportunity to contribute and show they are capable confident learners.  Looking good my friends, wonderful team work and generosity sharing with your classmates and teacher.
